i tried to watch the recent remake of dune<\/i> last night. i’d rented it and almost famous<\/i> the night before, thinking i’d have all day wednesday to watch them.
\nalmost famous<\/i> was good enough, i suppose. i don’t think i was either old enough to appreciate the culture of the seventies or enough of a music junkie to relate to the “doing it for the love of the music” moral. i don’t see why kate hudson won an oscar for her role. she played the same part her mother played for the first half of her career: party girl with a conscience. since when does that deserve an award? while i’m in this paragraph, i must note that i was completely smitten with the character of russell. one word: yum.
\nas for dune<\/i>, the less said the better. i barely made it through watching one hour before i gave up and took it back to the video store. i should have had the testicular fortitude to demand my money back and inform them they should be ashamed to have such schlock on their shelves. the paintings were nice, but not at all realistic. the cgi was good, but did not fit in with the sets or backdrops. the acting was horrible. the casting atrocious — half the actors had accents i couldn’t understand. i kept thinking that it was all well and good that they wanted to pursue remaking the film, but david lynch had already done all the hard work. in my opinion, he did it much better, too.
