7 Thoughts on “effortless

I was wondering just what do people consider is techno-ambient music.
I am lucky enough to have digital cable
TV and way up on channel 437 there
is an CBC*Galaxie ambient music channel.
It works great for background music
and sometimes there are really great
(and eerie) songs that will never get
    played on the radio.
I guess most casual music fans think of
    techno-ambient music as being Moby
    and Orb and whatnot.
    (I tell my brother it’s planet-arium music.)
But that would be like listening to only
Bob Marley reggae music and ignoring
    all the cool dub stuff.
Much of this will never be heard on radio:
(You can get info for every song on digital cable. Wow, am I working for these guys?)
    Venice Beach Dub by Stuph
    from Backroom Beats album
See the Light by Minty’s Style
    from Private Lounge
    Private Road by Bent
    from Programmed to Love
Tropic of Cancer by Below the Sea
from The Loss of Our Winter
    Zamani by Plaid
    from Double Figure
    And my all-time favourite:
almost anything by The Cocteau Twins
You may now mock me at your leisure.

Thank you, hessie. Now I will look for the video(newsgroups, IRC). I wish more of my ambient music files had bass. What is my computer’s subwoofer for anyway?
    Chattering on again:
The strangest and most gratifying thing that the ambient channel has is that every Friday night (past 8pm?) they usually play an entire Solid Steel Show album.
These are way cool (yes, way cool) mixes by artists like Coldcut (Solid Steel Show #9) , DK (SSS #8) and strictly Ken (SSS #7). They feature all kinds of sounds, dub, talking bits and songs vegematically redone for your enjoyment.
A mysterious entity called the Etnies provides them.
If you have ever heard Frontier Psychiatry by the aussie band The Avalanches, this would give you an idea, in short format, of what these Solid Steel Shows are about.
Or ask iain (distant cousin of Ford Prefect, HitchhikersGTTGalaxy), my guess is he might know who the Etnies are;)
Ennui assaults me in my fortress of solitude,
As homework calls me, I repent my surly mood.
    Friendly flame war, anyone?

For those who glory in their geekness,
And often watch TV without meekness:
    Again, digital cable TV:
(TV is good. Life is better.)
The Screensavers on TechTV (subscription channel in Vancouver area)
    http://www.techtv.com/screensavers
    Live web cam call-ins.
    Megan Morrone (married…sigh)
Patrick Norton in a utilikilt (a tool-belt skirt).
Way too many adverts and pitchs for products. (Tape, fast forward and roll. Again. Again, and breathe.)
NorAm rec room for tech types who couch and compute.
Live…did I say live. Set your personal crontabs for 16:30 PST on weekdays.
Interviews with people, especially women, like the Woz, Gosling(Java dad), Lt. Uhuru, Nir Zuk(firewalls), Cesar(CTS labs uberhacker), Esther Dyson, that Marimba woman, that E-Bay founder woman, assorted women astronauts….
    Live demos of software.
Oh yeah, uh, try the link.
Oh my, am I frothing again?
It has occurred to me that I am speaking of that which you may not have easy access to. Why am I doing this? *blush bright salmon and stomach flips*
Now, I may have to tease you with my childish manhood to save face and still be a warrior dude.
If this perturbs you, what would be an appropriate type and length of comment post? Sometimes I may be socially lame in my enthusiasm. Thank you for your patience, hessie.

    the feelings expressed are true
only the length of it i do rue
    concise.urbane.witty
rather than shadowblog i shall email/message most off-topic, lengthy and/or personal matters
hessie, you are busy and an ack of email receipt via the cable email address would suffice
it is not your essential job to care of people, job #1 is yourself
also, i do wonder if anyone else has my quandary?
am i Bat Manuel, Arthur, Capt. Liberty or the Tick? :)
    apparently not an either/or question

  7. i wonder where you came from. i wonder if i know you from a past life. i wonder if maybe you just work for the cable company and this is a stealthy pitch to hook new digital subscribers.
don’t run away, e.t. i have no reeses pieces to lure you back with.
    answer your damn email, already.
