“It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.” – Alan Cohen
“The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.” – M. Scott Peck
“Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem to be more afraid of life than death.” – James F. Bymes
“Most people miss opportunity because when it knocks, they’re too scared to open the door.” – Tim Sheedy
they offered the job. now i have to decide if i can stop being nervous long enough to accept it.
Congrats, and good luck with your decision!
(Just to be a brat: Just think…Nikon. hehe)
If you don’t take the job, then all our mojo will be in vain, and the terrorists will have won.
(Congratulations!)
Do it, do it, do it! Remember–if you take the job and love it, you get a new experience and learn something from it; if you take the job and hate it, you get a new experience and learn something from it. :-) It’s a win-win situation!
Congratulations, anyhow!
Well, I can only speak for my mojo. I hate to be all level-headed about this, but what are the pros and cons of the new job (or did I miss that post)?
pros:
– 9% raise
– will learn new skills
– won’t be bored for 70% of each day
– will interact with new and different people/departments
– get to wear safety shoes!
– will have a good departmental manager
– will be kept very busy
– potential for overtime
– fewer stairs to climb
– will still get school reimbursed
– i’ll have real responsibilities again
cons:
– NEW and SCARY
– will leave my ultimate comfort zone (i’ve done this job for seven years, it’s second nature now)
– will be kept very busy
– will have to interact with more people
– there will be less time to surf and blog
– feeling like i’m deserting my current manager whom i love to pieces
– multi-tasking sucks
– it’s not at all technology-related
– i’ll have real responsibilities again
oh, one more pro:
– new job == new Nikon D70
Yay! Heather! Go you! So what will you be doing in this new gig? What’s it entail?
a whole bunch of clerical/clerky things involving purchasing, tools, and uniforms.
Change is always good. Plus, there’s nothing worse (in my opinion) than being bored at your job. So, I’d say go for it.
congrats! ooh sounds like the pros outweigh the cons! especially the part about the raise
AND the D70! ;-)
Sounds better than truckin’ .. where do I sign up? ;)
all the cons actually sound like pros to me ;-) Congrats on the offer Heather. I just bet you’d rawk at the new job, and ‘us lurkers’ would benefit from the pics from the potential new camera ;-)
Congrats! :)
Yay Hessie! Go for it!! Good on ya!
Hmm… now, does 9% raise = camera AND trip to Woostah? Then it’s a given. ;-)
The only thing I quesiton is this – these tech. classes you’re taking, are they for personal fulfillment or career expansion? If you’re planning to finish that degree to move on to something more technical in a year or so, maybe it would be better to do a low-stress (if boring) job for that time to concentrate on the grades, then search for the tech job?
I don’t know, though, I think plunging into the change would be good for your psyche. New job, new apartment, new camera, new hessie! (Of course, I LIKE the original hessie just fine.)
these are great quotes. thanks for sharing!
