I’ll explain it the same way I explained it to H. (which in a way did allow her to figure it out, so in a sense she was right when she said she finally figured it out).
Pearls. What color are they. Think about a pearl in your hand, looking at it closely. Very closely. Look at the subtleties in it’s color, how “wavy” it can look. What color is it predominantly?
Jam. Think of strawberry or grape jam. Think of it’s consistency. Imagine it’s texture.
Now, think of a Jam that is the color of a Pearl, but perhaps like slightly watered down jam. If you still don’t get it, then read this over and over and over again until you do. It will dawn on you. When it does, you’ll never think of that name the same way again.
Oh, and that’s no coincidence. I didn’t make this up, and it’s not an urban legend, either.
Then again, I just read that FAQ, and found that it’s “consensus” that has ruled where the name came from, not official press release, etc.
I know someone will take it upon themselves to prove it one way or the other finding something official; cool!
Personally, I’d like to think it wasn’t what I was told when I was at KROQ. Every time I hear that name, it gives me willies!
=)
umm, what does it actually mean?
There was no figuring out… you had to be told. But, we’ll just keep that between you and me.
…and everyone else who just read that
i’m with andy. what does it mean?
ask edge. i’m so not repeating it.

Kind of like Third Eye Blind… wonder what that is… =)
Or from the 70’s, the Lovin’ Spoonful, 10cc, etc.
