just found out that we could possibly be picketed as early as april first. which means no work and no pay (until the measely strike pay kicks in). i mean, i know i’ve been bitching about holidays, but this is not how i wanted to get one. ugh. i’m suddenly very glad i have some money in the bank. i guess i won’t be going out and buying anything extravagant.

picketed for what? boy I’m glad that doesn’t happen to us…at least, not that I know of. I can’t afford to not get paid to come in and not work.

let’s see if i can explain this… i work for vancouver’s “subway”, which is run as it’s own company, but gets its funding from a parent company. our sister company’s (the busses) unions are in negotiations right now. they’re the ones who are going to picket our site(s) if they go on strike april first. because we’re unionized, we can’t cross their picket lines (well, we shouldn’t). make sense?

That’s silly that you have to go without pay because they want to picket.

“support your union brothers and sisters” yadda yadda… gee, it’s a good thing i didn’t accept that unit rep position with *that* attitude!
